Jeff Stein

Music video pioneer and award-winning film and TV director Jeff Stein was still in his teens when he wrote, produced, and directed The Kids Are Alright, the classic, award-winning documentary of The Who, which made Rolling Stone’s list of “Greatest Rock ’n’ Roll Movies of All Time.”

Jeff’s video of The Cars’ You Might Think (I’m Crazy), won the first MTV “Best Video of the Year” Award and became the first music video added to the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Modern Art.

His video for Tom Petty’s Don’t Come ‘Round Here No More, a rock ‘n’ roll version of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, was recognized as #5 on Time Magazine's list of MTV's “Best Music Videos.” Jeff has also directed music videos for a variety of rock icons, ranging from Little Richard to Bruce Springsteen, and has directed film stars ranging from Woody Harrelson to Will Smith.

Commercials, videos, and long-form projects directed by Jeff have been recognized with dozens of awards, including several Emmys, a Peabody, and Cable Ace Awards. He’s been at the forefront of entertainment innovation since he co-developed and sold a major music video technology to Apple in 2008.

Later, Jeff became a founding member and Chief Alchemist of Magic Leap, a leader in mixed-reality. His role there put him on the frontlines of next-level new technologies and location-based immersive experiences, collaborating with other groundbreaking companies, including Weta, Magnopus and Meow Wolf.
